A Natal Mounted Rifles insignia?

The scroll reads NCMR, so not Natal Mounted Rifles. Maybe something like North(ern) ??? Mounted Rifles.

North Cork Militia? (Which leaves the "R" unaccounted for).
They formed part of the KRRC, whose motto was as per this badge. Just guessing, it's a quiet Sunday morning. |

Not adding much but I believe 'CELER ET AUDAX' (Swift and Bold) in deed relates to The Rifles (Royal Green Jackets etc)
As Milmed suggests - North Cxxx? Mounted Rifles - pure speculation though |

Thanks to all , I forgot to mention this is a badge that could go on a helmet as it is 9cm tall and 6.5cm width

Is this for the 1st (and is the vertical bar above the letters a 1)? Or did both use the same badge?

Hi, It is for the 1st North Canterbury Mounted Rifles. The collar badge was a broad fern leaf with 1/NCMR on it. Tinto

Thanks a lot for that information. The 2nd then had already the ram that became part of the badge of the merger in 1911.

So how long was this badge used before it changed to the rams head ?

As I said a badge with a rams head and CMR was already in use by the 2nd Regiment North Canterbury Mounted Rifles. They merged in 1911 into 1st Mounted Rifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry) and that used the well known rams head with CYC badge.
