Default Unusual mark on an Inniskilling Dragoons

Hi all, picked up this over the weekend and noticed a small J stamped into the slider.

Any ideas?

Brian

Could do Philip, thanks for the input. I have no idea on this kind of thing. It's quite well defined so my original idea of it being done by the soldier himself seems kind of debunked

Brian

that mark does not look like being any official or makers mark in my opinion. It is highly unlikely to be a Jennens mark. Consensus is that they did not make other ranks badges (which this BM design with slider purports to be).

Unfortunately I think you have a reproduction. This badge has the non voided windows and extra rows of bricks above the central tower common to most modern fakes. The sweat holes do not look contemporary in my opinion. If you search the forum you should find many threads on this topic.

Ah feck. I was sure enough on that one too. That's put a dampner on my evening!
