It's a cap badge which is missing the overlay, for one of the elements of the Cadet Instructor Cadre. The badge should have either an eagle, anchor, or crossed swords attached to the badge below the crown. Since unification, the Canadian Armed Forces no longer uses a "general service" badge per se. The tri-service cap badge worn by recruits before they are trade qualified would be the closest comparison.

170gunner,

Walt nailed it. I have attached the Cadet Instructor's Cadre (Army) for you to see one of the 3 versions.

I did like the former general Army OR cap badge, with the crown, crossed swords, three maple leaves, and Canada banner - now re-adopted on Canada Army buttons and soon, on the command badge.

Unhappy Unknown Canadian badge

Thanks that clears that one although there is no evidence of an overlay on the badge so perhaps it is unfinished. Luckily did not pay a lot.
