Lions head look like Rawlings- 937 -Hulme Grammar School Cadet Corps.
Thanks to the power of computers and search engines.Bosleys had a badge of Hulme Grammar School in their postal auction of 18th May 2011.(KK 2577 ) That badge was brass with a slider and included title scrolls tip and bottom but the lion looks identical to the one on the picture. But when I looked in K and K the badge in this thread is shown and is KK 2576, just the Lions head in white metal. P.B.

It's a (n educated) guess - but the use of all symbols on the button makes me think it is something like Lords Lieutenant/Deputy LLs?

Hi there,
The button is for "Governors-General". (Source: #R47 - British Buttons by Dennis Blair). N.B. The design on the Silver buttons of Lieutenants of Counties, is as follows: England - Crown atop a Rose Scotland - Crown atop a thistle Wales - PoW Plumes Northern Ireland - Crown atop a shamrock Cheers Ian

Hi Alex, if you found the badge in Durban, it could be a Natal Cadet badge. Many were not recorded, and all in white metal. Many used a symbol that did not have anything to do with the school. If a school in Natal had an affiliation with the school mentioned above, they could have worn the same badge. Likewise, the manufacturer could have just used that die to make the badge if they asked for a lion. It may need some investigating. Regards Andrew

Hulme Manchester
1. Interestingly there is a chrome one of these on ebay it is clearly not Hulme OTC if it is chromed. Another K&K misidentification possibly.

Founded in 1915 (source for that comes from school CCF) the Hulme Manchester Cadet Corps badge was in brass and had a title scroll and the OTC successor had the same. 3. It is listed in the 1937 Army list but did not appear to reply to EJ Martin's enquiry of that year so was left out of his article. 4. The school had a CCF who were affiliated to the Manchester Regiment and wore the fleur de lys. 5. Interestingly this book's author joined the Hulme Manchester OTC in 1935 aged 16 and states that the younger boys were in the Cadet Corps. Hulme Manchester:
A long time coming but this is the Hulme Manchester OTC one (same design as Cadet corps with different title). As yet this is the only badge seen in photos of the school cadets and the sole lion head remains unidentified. Hulme Oldham: Whilst the Oldham School did wear a single lion headed cloth cap badge on their school civilian caps as can be seen in this photo. https://www.ohgs.co.uk/ArchiveWebPag...os/photo3.html the school cap was an embroidered version. They did not have a Cadet Corps but in 1942 the school did open an ACF unit. Many of the younger Guernsey boys joined along with the Hulme Boys. I think we have discussed this before on another thread. There are two Hulme Grammar Schools, one in Manchester and one in Oldham, just as you say. The Manchester HGS is the one with all the badges, you are correct. I have attached mine for your interest. regards
