any patch can fade if used in the sun for a length of time, but imo this badge is a poor copy

Typical Indian made sign in my opinion. The red dye they used faded something fierce. I own and have see many Indian formations signs with this fading.

You think it is Indian made...but do you think it is a fake as Jerry do? Or just an Indian production..but legit?

It does seem very consistent in color, which I would think not common with a fading patch. Anyway to get a peek at the back of the pink felt. It should reflect the darker color of the original. If it's the same washed out pink that may answer your question.

IMO this badge has fluffy embroidery and is on a fluffy backing typical of copies, not genuine period examples. Whilst I understand there are quite afew period made variants, but I have yet to see any that looks like this does.
here are the two I own

The shield is very faded yet the yellow and deep pink detail of the sword hilt and the dark blue (black?) horizontal band and the badge backing appear pristine.
Looks a bad 'un to me. |

Could well be a bad one, but it can be difficult to be sure with these as so many variants exist that were locally hand made. I would peel the back a little to see if the reverse is red or not. If it is, it still may be period.

Jerry,
I agree this is a poor copy for the reasons you have already said. Mark |
