Default RMP Shoulder Title

Hi can any one help with this RMP shoulder title it is Maroon rather than the usual red, it appeares it has been machined on to something at some stage the backing material is missing or there was not one, any help much appreciated in advance

This is purely a guess, I haven't seen one of these before but there is a para provost unit which were always part of 156 Pro Coy in Colchester.

They wear a maroon beret with the RMP cap badge so maybe this was an unofficial badge made for them when battledress was worn?

As I do not know how you came by the badge, this is just a guess;

The backing colour changed from red to scarlet in 1951. Your badge may be a manufactures mistake that was submitted to the WO as a sample of their products, which was rejected by the inspectors, it may have been attached to a sample card by a metal staple. Badges for disposal were ripped off the cards hence the missing piece of cloth.
