Default Help please Brit formation sign

A friend in the US would like to know what the formation sign is on his grandfathers R Signals uniform. He thinks it is post WW2 Austrian Occupation. I no longer have my reference books so any help would be appreciated.

Is it the Royal Marines Amphibious Assault Support badge? Sorry, I don't know the proper designation.

I just looked up the Eighth Army badge, they didn't. So this is not their badge. The pictured badge is a crown above anchor, and a darker horizontal, double, stripe behind the crown and the arms of the anchor.

The badge I'm seeing is the 8th Army / British Troops Austria sign over an arm of service strip?

Cool 8th Army/British troops in Austria

These formation signs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, many being locally made, I think the cross was supposed to represent a crusaders cross.

As far as I can make it out, yes, it looks like the yellow cross with violet coloured edging on white shield on dark blue / black backing variation
I'm putting the "staggered" or diagonal looking horizontal bar down to the poor quality of the image when magnified.
Just the way I'm reading the image on a phone.

Or the Cross of St. George. While that is generally in red, in heraldic terms a 'cross of St George' is actually any cross which runs to the edge of the shield in all four directions.
