The British 79th Armoured Division were the outfit with the 'funnies' which first saw action at D-Day. Their badge was a bull's head in a triangle see below].

The 82nd Assault Squadron [RE] was a unit of that division. Possibly a theatre made unit patch? The 79th also saw action in NW Europe.

Hello Peter, thank you for the hint: I hadn't noticed that the shape and the composition of the the flash are very close to that of the 79th Armoured Division sign. Still in order to be RE one would suppose that the backing of the bull's head should be blue, whereas here is black, rather.
