Default need help with old buckle

hello all, i know absolutely nothing about these things, so please forgive any ignorance on my part. My father died recently and I found several buckles like this in his belongings. It looks like a buckle of some sort, but doesnt appear to have a catch, its possibly missing something from the back? it has a GR monogram on it and manchester & salford volunteers. Could the GR stand for George V or George VI? . some photos attached, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bernie,

It's a shoulder belt plate. These are usually made in this manner with a hook and 2 "studs" that would be "buttoned" through eyelets in the leather shoulder belt.

That's all I can really tell you, hopefully other members can provide some more information on the specifics. It's a nice looking piece!

Cheers,

Adam

Hi Bernie

the Shoulder Belt Plate to the Manchester Salford Volunteers is George 3rd. It was formed between 1803 to 1808. After this i think they became local militias
