Default WW2 Colonial Unit Badges

Good Evening.

Can anyone help me to identify some badges please? I am cataloging my fathers collection and have got to the frame with African, Indian and other colonial units badges in it.

Pictures as attached. There are 6 to start with, but there are another 25 odd in the frame, which I'll get round to another time

The 2nd picture is the 2nd Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) - an Australian light horse militia regiment.

The 2nd Light Horse Regiment (Moreton Light Horse) (QMI) was a Light Horse militia unit in Queensland. On 1st October, 1918 as part of a army renumbering scheme, it became the 2nd Light Horse Regiment (Moreton Light Horse) (QMI). This scheme was adopted so that Citizen Military Force (CMF) units would take on the numerical designations of their A.I.F. counterparts which had been raised in the same areas. The 2nd Light Horse Regiment (Moreton Light Horse) (QMI) adopted the battle honours of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment A.I.F.

After several redesignations, it was disbanded on 29th July, 1943.

Could the NMR one be Natal Mounted Rifles?

The last image is of a badge for the Winnipeg Rifles, circa 1922 - 1937. The regiment was granted the Royal designation in 1935, and had a new badge authorized in 1937.

Default WW2 Colonial Unit badges

The first badge 'XXXII' on crossed lances was worn by the Indian Army 32nd Lancers pre 1922. Info from Cox, page 258, fig2359.

Whilst I cannot place the EARS badge I think it featured on this site during the last few months.

Stephen.

Thanks to you all for your responses.

I was wondering if the EARS could be the East African Reconnaisance Service, or something similar?

NMR would be for Natal Mounted Rifles (3rd pic) and for EARS,our colleague ZOB may have had the answer on his post of 20-08-09 when he wrote that they were East African Reconnaissance Squadron.
Cheers
Jo

Hi, the EARS is East African Reconnaisance (Owen 3714) and the NMR is Natal Mounted Rifles (Owen 474). Both can be confirmed WW2. Regards Andrew
