what hat badge on a VC winner
hi all
a few days ago, the last VC awarded to an aussie in WW1 was sold at auction and will be displayed at the war memorial in canberra. the following article along with a pic of the recipient were in the local paper. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...9-2862,00.html my question is, what is the cap badge he is wearing?? shouldnt he be wearing the rising sun? BC the cap badge looks like a General Service badge.

Maybe the regiment he was serving in when he won it (I am assuming that picture was taken afterwards...) was not the same regiment at the time of the photo? david |

thanks malc and david,
but, the general service badge for the australians was a rising sun. in general, they didnt wear any other unit cap badges. btw, i dont believe the british general service badge has any place in the australian army? i may be wrong and look forward to being corrected. ingram was serving with an australian rgt and therefore there would be no reason to wear a british badge. i also seem to remember seeing a full bust pic of him (not just this head shot) and am sure he had rising sun collar badges??? bc |
