Default Connaught Rangers a/a..well ???

This was an 'interesting' ( to say the least) badge, a mate of mine has,in his 'NOT really too serious items' box.
A/A Connaught Rangers ????
"Yeah ,right !" *
He ,and I, both cannot believe this one, as we all know this Regtiment was disbanded in 1922 .
This is an Indian made badge.Possibly for a show or just for fun? Can't really be too serious, surely ?
Anyway here it is.....enjoy.....laugh......whatever !
Cheers !
Steve

Wink Old A/A badges

This was probably made by the same firm that made an anodised Royal Munster Fusiliers cap badge I saw on a stall thirty or so years ago, both were amalgamated on April 1st!

I have a couple of catalogues from M Azam & Sons of Lahore (West Pakistan) dated 1974. I have posted a few scans. Note that they supplied "metallic or silver anodized gold cap badges at very reduced prices". Actually 30 pence plus 10 pence airmail for each badge!
I have scanned pages showing "Royal Canadian Army Cap Badges" for our Canadian members and PB may be interested in the "Kings Regt 1970 Helmet Plate" at £10 - expensive when you see that they supplied Sam Browne belts for £5.50.
I have no idea about the quality of badges supplied back in the 1970s. The company is still in existence.

Hi Guys,

This is an open cast example similar to the fake West Yorkshire Regiment badge.

The dodgy looking lugs are also found on the one piece Queens Own Highlanders often described as 'experimental items'. The badge was made by open casting with rear cratering that looks like the surface of the moon.

re: "Yeah Right" slogan.

This was in common New Zealand use before the wankers at Sacchi and Sacchi, located in Courtney Place, Wellington, hijacked it and sold it to a booze company renowned for turning out nothing more than insipid piss for under age drinkers to get wrecked on.

Regards

Chris

Grey Green,

I remember the Azam catalogues, what a load of c_ _ p they sold but interestingly the first Kings ( Mcr and Lpool ) musicians helmet plate which was based on a sand cast copy of an officers helmet plate ( you can see where the holes for the scrolls would have been ) was made abroad.

The plate had a very gaudy anodised badge in the centre on black cloth and it is quite possible that it was made by Azams (see MHS Bulletin page 93 No 104 February 1976 ) so it is possibly this badge they were selling for £10 each.

I cannot remember where Azams used to advertise, may have been in Exchange and Mart or Soldier Magazine, can anyone else remember ?

Peter

Cool Azams

Peter, I to have an Azams catalogue going back to the late 1960's. I did not send for it, rather they picked my name and address out of "Soldier" magazines "Collectors Corner" which some forum members may have seen in the past, sadly extinct for a great many years.

I still have this catalogue for interest only, never placing an order!

Thanks Sonofa,

I remember the catalogues ( I do regret not keeping paperwork from the the 1960`s and 1970`s like you and Grey Green appear to have done ) and I am wondering if like you ,they sent me a courtesy copy after seeing my details somewhere.

Hi Irishhouse,

Can you provide a rear view shot - would be interested in the lugs.

Are they the same as the badge first posted here?

Regards

Chris

Thanks Danny,

Yes, there seems to be quite a few of these about but Blind Freddie could spot these little puppies so they should not be an issue to us A/A collectors.

That's four we know of so far being:

1) 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars - St Edward Crown
2) Connaught Rangers
3) One piece Queens Own Highlanders
4) Malta Artillery - Tudor Crown
5) West Yorkshire Regiment

Regards

Chris
