Default Packaging For Anodised Cap Badges

Hi Guys,

Here are some scans of examples packaging used in the late 1990's early 2000's by Firmin & Son PLC.

What I would like to know is how were anodised aluminium cap badges packed for issue pre the above dates.

If anyone can help then please post information here.

Many Thanks

Chris

I can never recall at any time while in the army (1958-73)having a cap badge issued that had any packaging at all.

Hi North Stafford,

Do you know (remember) they come loose in a box of 50 or something like that?

Was the box made of cardboard, in two parts or was the lid part of the main body of the box?

Any printing on ony boxes describing what the box contained?

I can't remember seeing where the badges come from at all when I was issued gear from the Quartermasters counter but I'm sure someone will remember.

Many Thanks

Chris

They were wrapped in tissue paper and sealed with a bit of tape and issued in a cardboard box of 50 (could have been a 100).

Agree with Alan. When they came into the Thiepval Barracks stores
they were wrapped exactly the same way - the diabolical thing is, I
didn't bother with them 'cos I thought they looked "cheap and nasty"...
What can I say...

Chris,

They still come this way I recently saw a box of RSIGNALS badges issued in tissue paper rather than the Firmin plastic bag. I am not sure of the maker.

Default A/A BADGE PACKING

From my memory it depended on how many were ordered by the QM. When I worked the clothing store mid '80s they came wrapped in tissue paper and then packed into a plastic bag and/or a padded envelope and/or various size boxes.

Default issue of badges

Hi Folks,

It's a long time ago, 1960 but this is one of those things that can be re-called, when I joined, our gear was issued in several parts and over a few days, firstly we got basics, Denims, B.D.'s, Berets, underwear etc and our badges.

The cap badge issued to all entrants was the Junior Leaders badge, A/A and wrapped in tissue, the collar badges were to our regiments, mine being the DERR and they came in a small plastic, heat sealed bag, we were also given a small piece of red felt to back the collars, I can't remember the manufacturer.

I would surmise that the caps were ordered in a far larger quantity than the regimental badges, hence the difference, incidently, this happened in Plumer Barracks, Plymouth, after the initial six weeks training, we all de-camped to Wingate Lines, Oswestry.

That's it, the beginning of a part of my life I'm still trying to forget !!! lol.

Dave.

Mine came wrapped in tissue paper the 1st time. Then just loose.
As far as i remember, the badges were kept in shoe boxes.Sticker or badge attached to the shelf to indicate what badge shoud be there.

Thanks everyone!!!

I'm was lucky enough to be given a badge still wrapped up in it's original tissue and I have a number of the Firmin sealed plastic bags with badge inside. It looks like I need the boxes or similar that the individual pieces came in as described by Mike which may be of great interest re: markings on it.

Regards

Chris

Default to wrap or not to wrap ???

One that also has a sense of humour, me thinks ??

Dave.

PS, After the ' spelling ' fiasco of a few months ago, I was under the impression that getting personal, would now be avoided, or is it me ?? I can't remember off hand, whether Rolica served 28 years or 38 but I'm sure he did long enough to be able to write a comment and miss a couple of punctuation marks, don't you ???
