Default Cap Badge ID

Hey everyone,

My granddad has expressed an interest in owning his old cap badge, unfortunately I don't know which regiment he was in and don't want to ask as it will be a surprise!

I know he was conscripted to both Egypt and Cyprus in the 1950s and he lived in West London at the time so it's likely from that region.

Any help would be much appreciated

Regards,
Ben

He's wearing the badge of the East Surrey Regiment.
There was a smaller version of the badge for wear on the beret, but he has the full size cap badge, it has the St Edwards crown in the design as worn during the current queen's reign.

Perfect, thankyou for your help, it'll make one happy old man!

Do you have any advice on where to buy a real one?
Or places I should avoid to limit forgeries?

Thanks,
Ben

This site may have what you need- https://www.deadspartan.co.uk/shop.p...=1#prettyPhoto - 3 Queens Crown badges listed. I should think it is hard to be sure which is which unless it is easy to compare size. Badge on page 1 is not listed as a beret badge, others on later page are, so the one on page 1 should be the larger badge. If thinking of buying, hopefully someone collecting to this regiment will confirm if it is what you need. Regards, Paul.
Might be an idea to post the full picture of your grandfather. I take it there is no chance he was an Army Cadet before his national service?

Would grandad have qualified for the General Service Medal 1918-62 with clasps for the Canal Zone and Cyprus, and if so has he claimed the medal and clasps ?(the Canal Zone one having been authorised rather late, around 15 years ago).
