Default RAF Shoulder Flash

Morning Chaps,

I'm the new sprog on the block.

I bought this a long while ago and the daft seller told me it was Luftwaffe! I was none the wiser then, but now I believe it is pre-WWII RAF. WWII RAF flashes were a light blue coloured eagle, this is an embroidered gold colour. I believe the NCO's stripes were gold too, at some stage. I hope someone knows what era it's from. It's funny though, I found no pictures of the same patch online whatsoever. Are they rare?

Cheers,
Caleb

I do not believe this is an RAF item. They have only ever been light blue and red. The detail in your eagle does not match any of the patterns seen, with the wing inner feathers being overly embroidered. If it was WWII or before then the background would be dark blue black and not blue grey. Yes there were and still are gold stripes for the band and for mess dress. In the 1930s there were also gold stripes for the "patrol Dress" but this was short lived. Another gold eagle has also been seen but it is different to yours, being the correct pattern but in a deep yellow cotton. This one is an unknown also. G'day Dave,

Oh, that's actually a shame, as I like to collect RAF insignia. Any idea what it is then?
I'd be very interested to know.

Cheers,
Caleb

I am sorry but I do not know what it is. The nearest I can find is the attached pic of a New Zealand item. Perhaps it is from the RNZAF. I have overlaid your pic so you can see the similarities.
