Default Another unconfirmed Essex Regt cap badge

Picked up some new pieces with my latest trip to the UK, including this one that I'm hoping for some help with.

As you'll see it is the first pattern castle Essex Regiment badge (KK659) but this one is in white metal that has subsequently been blackened. It is die stamped and with two lugs (E-W)

Keith Hook believes it most likely to be Essex Rifles Militia and I have no reason to doubt that but can anyone throw further light on this unusual one?

If Keith Hook says that is what it is then I am sure he's correct, I have never seen another badge like this, a scarce item.
