I had to view it in IE as that site (forbes.com) kept asking me to disable my ad blocker in chrome before I could gain access to the article.

Most annoying.

IMHO this is a lousy web site. I do not know if they want to advertise, propagate, support anything (but why else would you have a web site on the internet), but they lost me far before they could show their real message.

Same here. I got as far as 'disable adblocker', thought 'Why?' and then 'No' and left the site. I hope they didn't have anything really important to say!

I have no doubt we all could let it work as the designers intended, but we prefer to block scripting from third parties and blocking ads. In other words, people above here prefer to protect their systems from insecure web sites and their eyes/brains from irritating pop-ups.

Even in this website (britishbadgeforum.org) there is a script to be executed from cloudflare.com. I block this. Everybody should take his/her own precautions against the threats and annoyances of the Internet, or not.

Had a weird, chilling experience yesterday. Out of the blue, without pressing any pop-ups whatsoever, or giving any sort of permission, my PC took on a life of its own and commenced with an "Upgrading Windows" operation! This involved (a) Copying files (b) Installing features & drives (c) Configuring settings. Finally, FREE Windows 10 installed and the Legal licensing section came on screen. I left alone till the lad got home from work and asked his assistance. To cut a long story short, I pressed the 'Decline' button and my previous version (7) was restored. However, I am uncomfortable with the intrusion and have a bad feeling about the ease with which an unsolicited operation accessed my files, settings, etc., even though Microsoft owns the system

Hello GTB

You are not alone. See this BBC link to a feature about Microsoft automatically installing Windows 10. Not a very happy state of affairs.

Hi Roger
In my case, I was neither notified of the date of scheduled upgrade nor of the alternate method of cancelling the upgrade. It was a bolt out of the blue and I was mulling over whether I should pull the plug out - a drastic measure though! I can only guess that Microsoft had placed in abeyance one of my many pop-up cancellations (which we are now advised actually work to the contrary, and are a "go ahead" for Windows 10 installation)!
Thankfully, my declining to accept the Licence Terms effectively reverted the PC back to its previous version. What I am apprehensive about is what happened with the copying of my files. They were obviously copied into a Windows 10 version, so are they still in storage somewhere, or have they been exterminated into the ether with my cancellation of the Upgrade?

I had the thing install itself. I turned my machine on, the `do you want to upgrade to 10` notice came up but i left my machine to do something else before i declined. Came back to find it was going through the install routine without prompting. Had to wait for everything to install then had to go through the rigmorole of unistalling the blessed thing!!!!!! Fortunately nothing lost. i did a websearch and apparantly if you do not decline to install on the prompt, after a certain length of time it decides to install itself!!!!! Did more research and found that installing a GWX control panel allows you to turn the reminders off permanantly until you decide you want it installing. Definately reccomend installing this if you don`t want the pain of waiting 12 hours to download a program you dont want then waiting to uninstall the thing!!!

Hi Deejayuu,
Thanks for yr input. I did wait for some time until the programme went through the rigmarole of installing the new (unrequested) version. What I declined was actually the Legal part of the Licence - if I accepted that then I would have been committed. As soon as I declined it only took a few moments for my original version to be restored.
My question is what happened to the files, etc that were downloaded/uploaded to the unsolicited Windows 10 version, which was eventually cancelled.
