Unknown cloth arm badge
Hi There, Perhaps I am asking the impossible. Trying to identify what the attached arm badge may be. The picture is a massive enlargement of a sepia photo taken in 1945, so that explains why it is so terrible. BUT if anyone can even slightly narrow the search I would be very grateful. The photo was of a wedding couple. The man gave his occupation as a "soldier" and was dressed in 1940 pattern battledress with a lanyard on his right shoulder and this badge on his left.. No other identifying marks, badges etc are visible.
Hope someone out there can get me a little closer to knowing which regiment etc Many Thanks Trevor |

Hi Trevor, welcome to the Forum. You account is active.
It will be very difficult to determine much from the enlargement. Perhaps you could post the entire image or detail of the same showing the full uniform? There may be more clues with that image.

Many thanks for your reply. Yes I do see the problem. Attached are a photo of his full body and one of the badge which I have tried to enhance (but still not much better because of lack of any real detail)
However many thanks for trying Trevor |

With the white lanyard over the right shoulder I think your man is Royal Artillery.

Many thanks Bill.
I originally wondered about Royal Artillery or possibly Royal Pioneer Corps. But after looking at their websites I was not too sure. The shield shape of the badge does not seem to be right. I have been told that the lending of the lanyard to a junior rank (private) was done sometimes for weddings. I have looked at the lanyard and it does not look like the plaited ones that the RA used But you have given me a great start and I will follow up on that Thanks Again Trevor |

Many thanks John. All suggestions are very welcome. I agree with you that it certainly looks like it could be that.
However, this photo was taken at his wedding on 1 Sep 1945. I thought the 302 Infantry had been created on 15 Jan 1945 but disbanded on 7 March 1945Any opinions ?. Again Thanks Trevor |

The 302 badge continued to be worn by members of Force 135 which Liberated the Channel Islands, again Royal Regiment of Artillery units, 614, 618, 620 Regts.
