Hi Simon, so it's Indian Army (a mongoose) the information i got was that these belong to a North Staff's man called AW Bird, National level shooter, was in the All Hallows School 'Eight' shooting in the Ashburton at Bisley. After school he joined Army serving in India, continuing to shoot at Bisley. He apparently went on to represent India in the International matches in 1933 with the India Rifle Club. Hopefully that helps, and not known already. Regards Mark

Mark,

Thats remarkable, thankyou.

They all came with a set of N. Staffs officers badges and another lovely shooting badge with 'BIRD' in ink on the rear, the significance of which I did not realise until now.

Thankyou very much to you and the members of your other Forum.

regards

Further research reveals its this chap.

Lt. Colonel Aylmer Douglas Wilberforce BIRD, MBE, b. 28.8.1908

2nd Lt, North Staffordshire Regt, 1929; regimental duties, 1929-1940; Lt, 1932; Capt, 1938; held various staff appointments and attended Staff College, 1940-1942; held various staff appointments and commanded 7 North Staffordshire Regt, 1942-1947; seconded to Foreign Office, 1948-1950; commanded 1 North Staffordshire Regt in Trieste, 1951-1953, and Korea General Staff Officer Grade 1 (Training), SHAPE, 1954; retired, 1956; died in 1972.

Cant be All Hallows badges though as it wasnt in existance in the 1920's from what I can see. I think the Haberdasher Askes is more likely.

regards
