Special Mobile Force Mauritius
Good afternoon,
I have found a beret badge of the Mauritius SMF, by Firmin London. I have read that on the cuurent badges, coat of arms has repleced the crown. Do you know when this change has occured ? Thank you |

The island became an independent republic in 1968 and the coat of arms replaced the Crown at that time. You should be aware that the "Special Mobile Force" is not a military unit, but is a branch of the Mauritius police force.

Thank you for your reply. The SMF seems to be a little more than an ordinary police force.
From the official web site : 'The SMF is a paramilitary force; it is an integral part of the Mauritius Police Force with its main function to ensure the internal and external security of the island. It is organised as a motorised Infantry Battalion with five Companies, an Engineer Squadron, and a Mobile Wing containing two Squadrons equipped with armoured vehicles.' |
