Default Special Mobile Force Mauritius

Good afternoon,

I have found a beret badge of the Mauritius SMF, by Firmin London. I have read that on the cuurent badges, coat of arms has repleced the crown. Do you know when this change has occured ? Thank you

The island became an independent republic in 1968 and the coat of arms replaced the Crown at that time. You should be aware that the "Special Mobile Force" is not a military unit, but is a branch of the Mauritius police force.

Dave.

Thank you for your reply. The SMF seems to be a little more than an ordinary police force.

From the official web site :
'The SMF is a paramilitary force; it is an integral part of the Mauritius Police Force with its main function to ensure the internal and external security of the island. It is organised as a motorised Infantry Battalion with five Companies, an Engineer Squadron, and a Mobile Wing containing two Squadrons equipped with armoured vehicles.'
