Thomas Fattorini badge
Cheshire Volunteer Regiment badge, having searched the album section, seems my example has been through the 'wars'.
The perfect example shown here http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=20735 has a buttonhole fixing, so I'm assuming these were originally worn on a jacket lapel ??? Tony.

Cap Badge?
Tony,
You are quite right, your badge does seem to have been through the wars! However, although the enameled example was certainly a mufti buttonhole badge, this round version was also used as a cap badge. Not in my album (I really must update it; it's been about 3 years since I last did!) I also have a headdress version of your badge, with a slider attached in the middle of the makers name at the top of the badge, and no signs of an other fixings. Yours appears to have had a previous fixing removed, and loops fitted. Whether that fitting was a buttonhole or a slider we will never know, but I have only seen the non-enameled badges in "headdress" form, so I think it's a reasonable assumption that your badge is a headdress badge. That said, there is nothing definite in VTC collecting... Hope this helps; best regards, Tim |

Tony,
There was an article by Ray Westlake,in,I think, Crown Imperial about the Cheshire Volunteer Regiment. In think they had 3 designs of badge. Will try and locate the article which I think covered badges. In the History of the unit, when they became a Volunteer Battalion of the Cheshire`s the unit obtained bi metal Cheshire Regiment cap badges which annoyed the units who were wearing the all gm economy Cheshire badge. Tony,
The article was in Crown Imperial No.79 Summer 1995. 4 badges to the unit were illustrated, yours is described as "Button hole badge worn in mufti to indicate the wearer was an enrolled member of the Regiment. See attached. Peter
