Smile Army Ordnance Corps

I bought a small collection of badges today and amongst them was a very large AOC badge (50mm wide x 40mm deep) with two loops E-W. There were a number of other AOC/RAOC badges and titles in this collection and they were all 100% genuine. Has anyone seen or heard of an AOC cap badge of this proportion?

Default AOC badge

Thanks Dubaiguy for your photo, I have never seen a badge this size before, not having the Cox book is a disadvantage, although there have been many criticisms of this publication, there must also be some good material in the book. As long as you collect there is always something new to find out, the small collection I bought had several items of interest, some which will appear on the forum in the future.

Sonofacqms
I'll look forward to the future posts of your AOC purchase.

My guess is that KK 1023 (page 263) is also the same badge as that in Cox that Jeanpit and I reference. There are two badges KK 1023 and 1024 that look alike with 1024 being described as "as above but smaller".

Deduce from that what you will...........

Thanks
Mark

Cool Aoc

Mark, you are spot on, I should have consulted K&K when I first got the badge on Saturday, yes, it is 1023. I bought 1024 along with a KC RAOC beret badge and a KC full size along with the1023. These are spare if anyones interested.

Sonofacqms,

I am ex RAOC and may be interested in the spare badges.

Can you please PM me with what you want for them.

Thanks

I have a few. It is often referred to as a Pagri Badge, which it was also used for. Simple matter is it is an earlier pattern

Top Centre - (KK 1023) Army Ordnance Corps (Large) 1896 - 1907

Bottom Left - ( KK 1024) Army Ordnance Corps (Small) 1907 - 1918

Bottom Right - ( KK 1024A) Army Ordnance Department 1896 - 1918

Nice postcard by Harry Payne showing Large Badge being worn.

I am still looking for a nice Glit example for my collection

Follow up on post. I have now obtained a nice gilt example, but I am still looking for an AOC 'Coller Dog' same as KK 1024 but with cannons facing the other way with lugs (You see plenty with cannons facing left!)
