I prefer their federation period, notwithstanding, a very fine regiment, they would go on to live up to that particular nickname they acquired, they certainly did become truly incredible.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

It would appear I was guessing correctly that people collect on a theme of something they have an interest in but never pass up a bargain..

The big thing I struggle with (like most new collectors I would guess) is spotting fakes.

I have put posts on in the past about general tips to identify them and suggested books to help identify the real thing but it seems to just come down to experience.

This thread is making interesting reading though, please keep it coming.

Well currently,

Queens Royal Surreys and antecedents. Due to a certain strange liking for Piercy
Kirke.

22 Dragoons being my grandfathers regiment.

DWR being a former cadet (Mirfield ACF)

HAC being one of my former regiments

And RRF and antecedents also being one of my previous regiments (C Coy 5RRF)

And anything else that my butterfly mind finds "Ooh shiny"....

Just to add to the poignantcy, I read, albeit on Wikipedia, that William Ernest Henley, the author of the poem Invictus (I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul) was well acquainted with Barrie, and Henley had a young daughter who had a speech impediment and referred to Barrie as her fwendy-wendy which appears to have inspired the name of the girl in Peter Pan. Unfortunately the daughter died at an early age. Henly himself also inspired another of his friend's characters Long John Silver. Hmm Wikipedia?

I've always stuck with Pol Roger, a friend suggested it was being absurdly "Winstonian"

OOoh I do like Pol Roger but I'm afraid Lanson will always do it for me. Anything but Moet. I will only drink Moet through a straw. From mini bottles.

Look what you made me do, you are becoming increasingly naughty, I'll have to give it another 30 minutes or so, it needs to be a little cooler!
