round v hexagonal?
Hi All,
Question for the NZ experts: Is there a meaningful difference between shoulder titles with rounded v hexagonal lugs? Specifically, NZMC. I have a lovely Stokes marked shoulder title with round lugs (thanks Tinto ), but I have seen unmarked ones with hexagonal lugs (as well as Gaunt marked hexagonal ones, I think?). So are the different lugs a 'period of use' indication, or simply a maker variation? Many thanks, Tim |

Hi Tim,
I'm not an expert on NZMC shoulder titles in terms of when different types were made but my understanding is that both Gaunt (London) and Stokes (in Australia) were producing these titles concurrently. In other words, they are of the same vintage. Looking at my own titles, Gaunt used the hex lugs and Stokes used the round lugs. However, there may be exceptions to this. Regards, Tinto |

hi Tim
it is my understanding that no Australian manufacturers used hex lugs and certainly stokes never did. it is also my understanding that all the hex lugged badges both Australian and new Zealand were made by British manufacturers. bc |

Thanks Lads, I kind of expected it to be a maker issue, and it makes sense. I assume there was no change in design from WW1 to WW2? So like the cap badges, (just talking Medical Corps here) somewhat difficult to be definitive as to period of use?
Cheers, Tim |
