Is this a brooched RSF collar with a broken thistle-head?:

Thanks, Alex.

Given that the pin is orientated sharp end up, I am wondering if it was being used as a collar badge with this fixing.

If converted to be a sweetheart (just a theory) one would assume that the pin would have faced down.

Unless it was intended to be worn horizontally, as a sweetheart brooch. Just a thought. David

More than possible, and in so doing would, of course, mimic the orientation of the badge as it would have been worn on the uniform.
