A uniform of the Zion Mule Corps on display at the Beth Hagedudim Museum, (north of Tel Aviv?) In 1978 showed the ASC cap badge being worn (I took a photo of it but goodness knows where it or the negative are nowadays).

According to Badges of the Empire's Waggoners, by Michael McHenry and David Kellock (p. 431), the Zion Mule Corps wore the Menorah with the Motto Kadima (Forward) in Hebrew on the bottom banner. Apparently these were crudely made and after Gallipoli the survivors served with 20th London Regiment, then formed nucleus of the Jewish Legion which served as the 38th and 39th Battalions of the Royal Fusiliers. Same badge, but nicer finish, was worn post-war by the 1st Judean Battalion.

I think one of the authors is a member of this forum.

Keith were these Menorah badges locally made? Thank you.

Hi Desert Rat, no idea sorry, I assume made in Egypt or one of the islands that were occupied by the Allies for the prosecution of the Gallipoli campaign.

Well outside my area of interest but Leigh's mention of the ASC badge made me look in Empire's Waggoners to see if this could be confirmed.

The uniform on display I saw years ago had ASC shoulder titles too, although it was stated to be that of the Zion Mule Corps.
I actually met an ex Zion Mule Corps Gallipoli veteran in Tel Aviv, a shopkeeper, he showed me a couple of photos of himself in uniform, I should've paid more attention.
The museum had a couple of arch lever files laying around, containing loose leaf pages completed by visitors - the pages contained the names and addresses, photos and other details such as unit served in.
I thought at the time that they would make a wonderful book.
