Second Somersetshire
I have this large Second Somersetshire "Egypt" badge and am interested to know if it an original and when it dates from
All Second Somersetshire reference site portray the other badge attached (garter/crown) as the regimental badge |

Greetings and G'day.
I am by no means an expert in respect of these badges, but what I will offer is that the first was worn on a Glengarry, period of wear 1874 - 1881 and the second, is a style worn on a Shako, 1860s period. In respect of them being genuine: I very much doubt that the second is and would go as far to say it is a copy and as for the first, although it appears a reasonable example from the image, this style of badge is extremely difficult to assess as to originality. Photographs of the reverse of badges is always helpful in establishing originality.
