Good day Chay,
Foolishly, I gave up my copy of Zeev Schiff's book on the history of the Israeli Armed Forces. It was full of drawings of many hat badges and patches. I picked it up in Tel Aviv while on leave from the Golan Heights in 1976. Along with a few badges from a store on Dizengoff St. Please forgive my poor memory, but what I seem to remember is that in the first row, second from the left is the badge for the General Staff (not 100% sure) Second row, second from the left is Artillery, third from left is (again not 100% sure) Legal/Adjutant General. Third row, second from left is the Armoured Corps. Also, the Army badges were usually pickled bronze, so I believe that the badges that are silver in colour are for the Air Force. Nice group, not far off a full set.
I’ve added notes to your photo. Based on the wording and the pattern of the badge these are all 60s to 70s. In the mid 70s the wording was changed from Infantry Corps to The Infantry Corps. The General Staff badge, in the 50s was the standard badge of the IDF non specialist corps, and then at some point it was only used by senior officers, thinner stamped version you have is the last version made. I don’t think it is correct for the beret, it’s normally only seen on peaked caps, I’ve never seen it on a beret before. I think it went out of use with the peaked caps late 70s. Does the beret have a date stamp? the red beret for the paratroops came into use in the early 80s replacing the maroon version. I’ve attached what, in my opinion is the correct badge, it has the additional letter in front of ‘Infantry’ I mentioned above which you can compare with yours. That being said, a para who is then transferred to another corps would adopt the badge but keep the beret. As I’m contradicting what Ian and Jerry posted, I will attempt to clarify, 1. Adjutant is a book with sword through the center. 2. Engineers has a castle with a sword through the center. 3. Transport, there was Transport and Supply Corps, similar badge but with both words, this was reduced to Supply. Steve

Wow thanks for the information I wish I understood this language ))Here is the beret it’s of newer manufacturing to the cap badges which are all in great condition with the east west loops. Kind regards Chay

Hi Chay, I stand corrected on the beret badge, I have it in two books and it’s ambiguous. I wasn’t expecting to see the pin clasps on the back which makes it newer than I thought. Based on the attached photo of the current Chief of General staff it is still in use today.
The Military Police badge for the screw back is for the peaked cap, I've attached mine. Steve

Thanks, I did a bit more Google mining overnight. Today this badge is only worn by the Chief of General Staff, I checked photos of the Deputy Chief and they all still wear their corps badge.
Below is a quote from a site that sells IDF gear http://www.israeli-forces.com/cgi-lo...t=show_product In the early years of army establishment this symbol was being used all soldiers in all units, except for the air force, navy and artillery corps, all received the same symbol hat is a symbol of the IDF. The only difference was supposed to be just under the symbol background color to any force, but the idea implemented only partly. Over the years, several of corps have been established and created their own berets symbols, this cap badge tag it later became chief of staff of the exclusive hat. Steve
