Default Is this a scam?

This purportedly came from a fellow member this morning but I have my doubts. I'll ring him later to see if he is at home.

I hope that this meets you well.
I could not inform everyone about my trip to Athens,Greece , for a program because it was impromptu. The program was successful, but my journey has turned sour I was mugged at gun point and all my valuables were stolen, (cash, bank cards and mobile phone, where I went for sightseeing before leaving to the airport since my return flight is in few hours, quite honestly it was beyond a dreadful experience for me but looking on the bright side I wasn't seriously hurt or injured, I am still alive so that is what's important and luckily I had my passport in my hotel room to get me home.

I need your help financially to get back home, I need to settle some outstanding hotel bills and also take a cab to the airport. I am really sorry i am asking this of you, believe me I don't want to ask I would rather take care of it my self but I cant, I have contacted my bank, but the best they can do is to mail a new card which will take 2 to 3 days to get here. All I need right now is £1900, If you can help that would be great and I promise to make the refund once I get back home.

Please let me know if I can count on you and I need you to keep checking your email because it's the only way I can reach me. Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hello Lampwick,

It's a scam I'm sure it's been tried on forum members before if I recall ?

Keep your money safe ready for those badges

I got the same message this morning, allegedly from Dave Cutforth- I'm pretty sure that he and kath are not on holiday in Greece at present! Perhaps Dave could let us know?

Yes, its definitely a scam! I received one too this morning and have pm'd the member to let him know.

I'm sure if this particular member had been mugged, the muggers wife would have given them what for!

We had this one on the forum a couple of months ago.
It is a known Nigerian scam.
It means one of our fellow members' mailboxes was hacked and its address book stolen.

YES, it is a scam and has happened a number of times from a number of BABF forum members. I received one today from DaveC. Strangely, I have NEVER received one from a NON-Forum member - an aspect to think on.....

I'm sure once he finds out, Dave would be appreciative if anyone can advise him how to protect his emails/address book.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. As long as nobody is daft enough to send the money to these crooks.

Hello gentlemen,

I have to get my holiday money somehow and at the moment I am struggling, I thought that if one person fell for it I would be well on my way ??

Seriously, I appreciate all your concern, thanks for that ! but at the moment I am in dull old Tamworth, in fact I have never been to Greece and if I were to be in that sort of trouble I would be contacting my family and no one else.

As much as I love you all I would not have the temerity to try that sort of skulduggery, how ever, in four weeks time we will be off to Spain so if anyone gets another begging text in five weeks or so, please send all you can afford ??

I'm off to try and sort out passwords so thanks again.

Dave.
