I also don't mind dealers advertising on this site. I have picked up several items I would have missed if certain dealers hadn't alerted me to new listings etc.

Hello BC,

I have no experience whatsoever with regard to the Guards Cadet Training badge. It is outside my area of interest and I am therefore not really in a position to comment on the legitimacy of the C&T example.

I think this thread seems to be taking on a tangential subplot and leaning towards a debate about whether or not members have issues with dealers advertising on the forum. I am not sure this was the inention at the outset.

Personally, I have no issues with dealers advertising on this forum, not that my opinion is of any significance in the big scheme of things. Members who have expressed dissatisfaction with those dealers who may have used the forum for gain but who perhaps offer little or nothing in return, may have gounds for complaint. But the debate surrounding dealers who advertise here, and dealers who allegedly exploit forum members' knowledge are perhaps two separate issues. The Venn diagram would no doubt show a relataion between the two, but only in the sense that dealers (both the vaunted and the faulted) advertise their wares here.

Hopefully the thread won't degenerate into a bun fight.

Regards,

JT

Hi All,

as I started this, maybe it's appropriate that I finish it.

I respect the fact you, Stephen, and many others here, buy from C&T and probably any number of auction houses. Good for you, I have absolutely no problem with you or anyone else, doing that. I also have no problem with Dealers being on the forum. I don't have a problem either with an auction house that may sell a fake say, Leeds pals badge, when they normally sell tea cups. As you rightly say, caveat emptor. I actually also have no issue with a militaria house that makes listing mistakes, I agree, nobody is perfect.

I do have, obviously, have an issue with specialist militaria houses when they offer hight end items, which I would expect they take a much greater interest and care over, which are not only fake, but so fake, a layman can tell.

I also have an issue with threads degenerating into rudeness & sarcasm when somebody disagrees with you or has an alternate viewpoint. I personally have been guilty of doing it, and that's my bad.

There are polite and reasonable ways of arguing and disagreeing, so how about we make our little world here a better place, and show some tolerance. You don't have to give in or roll over, but I respectfully suggest, you and me, and everyone here needs to man (or woman) up, and embrace the fact that we should be able to have a civil discussion which may never reach common ground.

I never suggested members should not use C&T, Bosley's, or even Lockdales. Personally, I can't stand them, they charge too much, and deliver too little. But some here absolutely love them. Great! Buy away, full steam ahead!

But My original position stands, I think they should be castigated for offering obviously fake rare badges as real. I hope I never suggested you do not have the right to have a different opinion, so If you read it that way, I am sorry, it was not my intention.

So, If anyone made it this far, well, you deserve a beer or a nice glass of wine. I hope the result of this thread is simple: A poor collector who does not yet have the vast experience of some here to make an informed judgement on a badge, is now better informed, and not in possession of a hunk of garbage.

Cheers, Tim
