Default Gloucestershire Regiment Slouch hat 1944.

Another gem from the loft that keeps on giving, "Original ww2 1944 dated Burma Gloucestershire regt British slouch jungle hat".

Well the liner is certainly not original to the hat. Leather sweat bands were sewn directly on to the hat and not on to canvas loops, then sewn to the hat.

The leather sweatband appears to have been added to a later slouch hat and recent sewing machine stitches are clearly visible in the photograph.

Best to steer clear of this one.

Interestingly, ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

I know this thread is a few years old but I have seen a few 1944/5 dated slouch hats with liners mounted in this way, though I guess they all could be fakes...though the others I have seen are mostly by Failsworth hats, I have seen a 1945 by Denham & Hargreaves.

Jerry,

I have now been told by someone who knows far more about slouch hats than I do, that the style of hatband is a late pattern one and is perfectly O.K.

My observations were based on the limited number of slouch hats in my possession, three of which have the earlier pattern stitched headband, the other two having no headband at all. A very small sample size to base such a strong opinion on.

We live and hopefully, we learn.

Simon.

Indeed, there is nothing wrong with this hat that I see. Can't be sure the badge has been on it originally however.
