14/20th Hussars.
Think I have bought a dud here.Is it a cap or collar or arm badge? I have never owned one before, it seems rather small against the Leicester's badge. Looks almost cast at the back. Any info gratefully received.
Thanks John |

I think it is a collar.

Thanks Alan, but I thought the collar badge was a completely different design?

They alternated between the eagle (regimental preference) and the garter badge (officially issued) throughout their existance in the same way they did with the cap badge. https://1420th.org.uk/archive.html see here for early C19th photos of the collar in use. |

Thanks for the info Alan. It does look like a collar badge. I assume they would be a private purchase by the regiment if it was not an official issue.
Thanks, John |

I think they were. The regt decided to get the eagle back in 1926 and bought their own badges but it was a few years before they were officially allowed to wear them and issued. Alan |

The Prussian eagle is indeed an OR collar as Alan mentioned. The regiment obviously had a bit of a conundrum regarding it and managed to eventually overcome it resulting in it's resurgence.
