Years ago, I read a small collection of "typos" from local papers. One of my faves, part from the notice for a "Wind and Cheese Evening" at the local church hall was this:

"John Smith, a local antique dealer, has retired and is now faking things quietly at home"

And for all the John Smith antique dealers who may be offended by this, I have just snatched a name at random.....

I have got into trouble a couple of times on the Forum by confessing my guilty secret that I have a frame or repro glengarrys something like yours. I can't afford originals and could not resist buying most of them for $2 each. Does anyone know who makes them? I am missing six only.

Personally I have no problem with repros so long as they’re clearly advertised as what they are.

In this day and age the glengarries in that frame would be more than a lifetimes serious collecting not to mention cost a king’s ransom.

Indeed there are a great many who will have shelled out large sums from reputable sources for what they believe are genuine items but in fact have 100+ year old Fox restrikes.

Luke H. At 80+ years old I don't have the time left or the cash available to search for the originals. I buy them as fakes and enjoy hunting for the more obscure ones such as the 37 which I have but it's a homemade Frankenstein jobby but it still pleases me. My bucket list if you please. BTW. That magnificent glassed frame set me back £7 from a Charity Shop in Merthyr Tydfil.

It's 40" x 28" internally. It looks well in my bedroom. You can tell that I'm a widower as no woman would sleep in a museum like room. My children aren't going to argue over the disposal of my treasures but have informed me that they're going to burn the house down and claim the insurance.

Interesting you say this as our philosophy is to remove all our most valuable possessions (especially our cat...) and dynamite the house as it would be much easier than shifting.

Even though our house is 1936 (almost pre-historic by the standards of today), it's the land that they want.

We laugh to think that umpteen years back when we moved in we didn't even have a TV.
