Default 14th Kings Hussars

2 cap badges......one with slider and one with lugs

I think they are both OK but appreciate opinions

G'day Wayne

Ive had a look at your 2, 14th Hussars oval badges, my first thoughts were that the rear of the lugged on is not well struck, however on comparing it to mine which I have had for many years they look the same, the only part of mine that is clearly struck from the rear is the name at the bottom of the badge, so Id say that yours is a good one as is the slidered one.

Hope that this helps

Regards Phil.

Wayne

The early example with braze holes & loops is a nice example.
However, the slidered badge, I'm not to sure about as I can't see any sign of braze holes(has it any?) and I don't like the look of it in general to be honest, the strike, the size nor the slider.
Sorry just my opinion.

Rob

The lugged one is fine.

However there are very good copies of the slidered one about and the main giveaway is the lack of brasing holes.

Nice to know at least one is undoubted, all part of a collection of 200 badges from a deceased estate, lots of cavalry and economy brass badges

Like others, I do not like the second example, it looks very poor indeed, even without looking at the reverse, it's shape, the size of the letters and the fact it reads 14thKing's rather than 14th King's would be a good reason, for me, at least, not to buy it.
Never mind, they are not rare and easy enough to find these days.

Also, the '1' of 14 on the left should line up with the 'S' of hussars but it looks like it is slightly higher. Not a good sign.
Cheers,
Alex
