By The Batch
They appear to be making this badge by the batch. Seems like a waste of 925 silver.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-Solid-Silv...d=p3286.c0.m14 I have a link to a page which lists English & Irish silver hallmarks. To the best of my knowledge, 925 is a silver content, not a hallmark. Don't most original silver officers badges carry a Hallmark? Michael

925 is indeed the silver content, not a hallmark. Not all sterling silver badges had hallmarks. Some had just a makers name, the word sterling silver on a plaquet or stamped, or even no markings at all.
I guess the seller of this thing makes no claim as to originality. CB |

I think most of you know this is junk, but just in case any of you are looking for a genuine (i.e. a badge produced during the time of authorised wear, for actual wear by the regiment) officer's silver forage cap badge.
for god's sake do not buy this. John |

Silver content
Just to add to what has already been posted. 925 is a silver content of 92,5% which is the minimum for it to be considered 'sterling'.

I dont think anyone can say anything more that goes straight to the point than John ( M) has already said.
P.B. The problem it seems to me with this sort of lot,is, not what people who are members of this Forum might think of this type of item, it is with new and inexperienced collectors ( notwithstanding what has been said in other posts about those who might welcome non original items ) who might think they are bidding on scarce and original items.
