Possibly Vatican-related? Seems familiar and possibly something I have seen on Vatican insignia, etc.

Just a guess.

Or Boys brigade, or Church army, or even a wardens badge from a church, if they had a uniform of some sort.

It is indeed the Key's of St Peter and thus maybe a Vatican or Papal item. If it is in any way British I suggest looking at OTC badges. I do not have access to my references at the moment so cannot help further at this time.

My guess is Ponficial Zouaves. (Les Zouaves Pontificaux)

It's the Coat of Arms of the "Holy See".

I saw a similar badge here in Québec.

Does it have a maker's mark? Lugs on back?

There is someting about how the way the "cord" is attached and twisted that might say how far back it dates.... (I can't find it)

My guess now is Pix-X (1903-1914), does this match the period of the other badges you found with it?

Good Luck

There is no makers mark on the badge... it's lugged.... thanks for the info .. the other badges were ww2... but a couple of ww1 shoulder titles... all canadian... the lot came from Quebec so seeing another one from there gives a hint.

Hi,
The nearest I can find to that badge in my ref books is that of the French Canadian Pontifical Zouaves 1868-70. Although not ident, it may be a variation.
This unit were all vols and unsupported by the Candian Gov. They were raised after an appeal by pope Pius IX for help to defend the vatican against King Victor Emmanuel military aim to unify italy. Over 500 french canadians served with this unit in Italy.
This badge was worn above the right hand pocket on the vertical piping and can just be seen on the photo. The cap badge was the french light infantry style bugle.
The Manitoba museum of man and nature, has this badge, service medal, journal and paybook relating to a member of this unit.
Ive attached a poor quality picture of Moise Cromier a french canadian in his uniform and the his badge.

Gurkha,

I would say that is the closest one yet. It is not Papal Guard; Swiss Guard; nom-deplume K.T.

Check this out though

If it is a pattern of the "Holy See" the three knots in the cord represent The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost/Spirit.
