I'm sure the vendor would be interested in knowing why not as would I, possibly you could elaborate for our education?

Hi bc,

I have bought from Rod Flood at Minden Militaria at shows in the UK and by post and have been completely satisfied with his service, price, quality and description of the badges.

Cheers Dean

I agree 100% with the comments about Rod flood except about price I used to pick Rod and A T cloth expert and very very large D C L I collection in the early 1970 and drive to Wallis and Wallis Rod was not a dealer then and had not been collecting long even then he was very knowledgeable I would suspect the badge in this post is O.K One was recently purchased by a ex member of the forum for £105- it was maker marked I would be happy to pay the priced asked if I had not got one already

Compared to this one, which I believe is 100% genuine, there are a couple of discrepancies.
Most notably excess metal in the angle of the joints of the base scrolls and lesser "valleys" between the feathers. Also the coronet is much broader in the one I linked to.

Look at his 6th Hants.

Die flaw to bottom of the rose....

Judge every badge on its individual merits.

This is one of the ones that regularly pop up on ebay:

I would pay money for ubervamps. This one is mine:

I noticed this one a while back, I agree its a fake. That die flaw is on all the Gaunt B'Ham marked badges. I, also, don't like the Leinsters in the OP, the one I have was from Rod too and I am happy with it.

I think that Ubervamps first post was an honest query and not an attack upon the integrity of the seller. The badge in question has been removed from sale and this surely enhances Rod Flood'sreputation...in my eyes at least and confirms the comments regarding his well earned and respected reputation. I am sure that Ubervamp would agree with those comments but his post has allowed us an opportunity to reflect upon the merits of a badge particularly as there are variations of this particular badge.

I agree but I don't believe that there is more than one genuine all-brass variant. There are several copies but ubervamp's one is the only variant I would buy.

This goes to show the merits of a second opinion before purchasing any badge. Thank you to all for contributing.

I have to agree, I think it is certainly best to carefully examine everything before parting with any money, notwithstanding the particular dealer you are potentially going to buy from, there is also the danger that when people who do have a good reputation do sell a copy, the buyer will be completed satisfied it was actually original, simply because of from whom it was bought.

I agree with the comments that Rod Flood is one of the top dealers, been buying his stock for 30 odd years and always been satisfied. regards john
