Default 8 RTR Slip on or Something Else?

Hi folks

Any thoughts on this, colours are Same as 8 RTR on black slip on, but ribbon tapes are quite wide 25mm each and looks a bit new,

Could it be something else?

Cheers
Sean

Hi Sean, I obtained one as well in the hope that as it was on black it could be something armoured. I don't think it is RTR, probably foreign but maybe someone here knows. For reference I've shown it against a 5th and 8th RTR, best wishes Mike

Hi Sean, it is quite a mystery. I'm at work now so can't access my references, but I don't recall when black slides were introduced but I'm sure it was after 1953. The red flash was for the 1st but they only wore the red lanyard so basically I don't know what it is, I'll see what I can find out later. At a guess some officer training scheme? nice item though!! best wishes Mike

Mike may be on to something. The KC major's crown on a black epaulette slide might have been a precedent or tradition.
In 1967-1969 the Royal Armoured Corps Training Regiment (RAC TR) at Catterick was 1 RTR which ran a Potential Officers Troop. Personnel of many cap badges in the Troop wore a loop of red ribbon on their epaulettes and this distinction was carried forward when the 9th/12th Lancers took over as RAC TR in January 1969.

Default Instructors Lulworth camp

Tim,

Gunnery Instructors (SNCO's) at Lulworth camp wore a red band on their rank slide . Not 100% but Officers could have also worn them .

Another odd one, the colours seem to be the wrong way up.
