Camel Corps questions
In my picture file I recently found the attached photo of Major Huth of the Camel Corps wearing a badge I have never seen illustrated anywhere else. As it happens, I got one of the plain cast camel badges from an estate in Sydney several decades ago, together with the brass No 2 Imperial CC title and the ACC title.
They wouldn't let me have grandpa's rising sun/camel hat badge but I was grateful for the others. There were no other badges in the estate lot, and it seems that the ACC was worn by the owner as a member of the Camel Corps not the Catering Corps. The cast hat badge with the scroll under was sold on Ebay earlier this year and is the one I understand is the British CC badge most commonly worn. Aust and NZ of course had four other variations of rising sun/camel badges which were discussed in a recent thread. I would be interested to know: 1. any information on Major Huth: British? Australian? Squadron? 2. any comments on the small plain camel badge and ACC title. Thanks. |

That photo and some discussion about (Lieutenant?) Merlin Huth was the subject of another thread. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=60229 Last edited by Blackadder1916; 30-03-17 at 04:15 PM. |

Update on Australian Camel Corps badges
I have been going through old files and found some notes I did not know I had. It was the estate purchase in 1974 of some Australian Camel Corps badges that I referred to in the thread. I bought them from the nephew of 144 Pte Henry Kemp 3rd Batt AIF who served on Gallipoli, in the Camel corps, and later in France.
The items I bought were: 1. a cast hat badge 2. a cast Second Imperial Camel Corps shoulder title 3. Three diestruck cap badges with crown 4. ACC bronze title 5. a cast oxidised camel badge I would very much like to know more about the ACC title, the only one of this distinctive variety I have ever seen or read about. It can easily be confused with Catering Corps but my provenance is very good. My notes go on to say that the nephew kept some of his uncle's badges: 1. three cast ACC collar badges with crown 2. three WW1 service medals to Henry Kemp 3. a set of Stokes-made rising sun badges. |

Sorry both Camel badges are not accessible at present, photos of the backs would not tell you much because both badges are cast and have the normal rough finish on the backs. The larger British cast badge with the bar across the bottom was a purchase from UK in recent years, the smaller one looks exactly the same as the one worn by Major Huth in the famous photo.
