I agree with what has been posted thus far, the 2 lugged badge appears the better item, however, I very much doubt if both badges came from the same die.

Several points lean towards this: The angle of the head; size of the chest; wrinkles on the flank; thickness of the trunk; angle and shape of the scroll;voiding between the tail, (which I believe is a bit of a clue to a good one)

But not having a great deal of knowledge in respect of the Nelly badges, I don't know whether the 2 lugs is a good 'un or not.

A bit of fun for a Saturday. Here is a Nelly troop. Which one(s) are real Nellies? I do know the answer. Besides being a Yeomanry collector I take an interest in some Cavalry regiments, this being one of them. I'll give you the answer once people have had a chance to input their guesses.

Only two have answered and both are correct. The middle badge is the correct answer. The detail that fakers have tried to correct is the gap between the tail and the hindquarters. I have found that the fittings are the best indicator when unsure about the rest of the detail as this is harder to fake (but not impossible). The 3 loop badge looks like the one of the badges made in the seventies for the collectors market. The one on the right is easily obtainable from 'known' dealers on ebay.

Double scroll 19th Hussars K&K 790.

The lines on the trunk can be seen to be absent from the proximal end of the trunk and there is the visible gap between the tail and the rear flank of the elephant extending quite a way up the tail. States on the back of the photograph WM or silver 1898.

You won't see many Genuine doubled scrolled nellies ,I've only ever seen 2 the hall marked example which belongs to a forum member an an WM example .
