Paul it looks like a regular Dorsetshire badge with Marabout erased.

Thanks. My thought is blank tablet badges existed- but the majority were like this. There seem to be a mix of both types on the forum. Anyone know if this alteration was pre or post issue? The ones I see of this type all look much the same- not individual soldiers' efforts. I would think they were done as a batch. Also could be only one strike of badge used-which would also point to them being altered as a batch. Regards, Paul.
PS- a blank tablet one just made good money on ebay. Last edited by wardog; 09-08-14 at 12:23 AM. |

I believe these Dorsetshire blank tablet badges were worn with pride by at least some old sweats in the 4th Bn long after they were supposed to wear the regular badge. I recently saw one with WWII provenance and the Crown Imperial article mentions a post WWII officers badge.
So yes, logic would dictate the erased scrolls were perhaps unofficial but worn long after the official badge was no longer issued? Rgds, Thomas. |

Paul,
I haven't ever seen an original 4th Dorsets that was manufactured with a plinth blank as per a 4/5th Lincolns, 4th Northants etc. I would like to see one. The one I show above, K and K and the one Endici sold recently all share similarities to each other - by that I mean the badges may well be off the same die. I did this comparison between mine and the Endici badge and to me the erasing seems to be almost identical on the two badges indicating they were done by the same "hand" in sequence? What do you think? Paul |

Hello Paul- your version and the ebay one I had taken to be manufactured blank plinth. They do look to be of the type in K&K. Perhaps there is hope for my recent badge- these two types do seem to be in various collections on the forum. Perhaps a manufactured strike for a 4th Dorsetshire did not exist.
Do you think dies were altered- or the badge its self after it was made? Your version is very well done if altered after it was made. Regards, Paul. |

On my other ta badges the seeding is nice and even. On the Dorsets there are smooth areas which to me indicates it was modified after original manufacture. How much did Endicis go for? Paul |

£91. My version was £15 buy it now- its not as common as the fake version I posted earlier in the thread. You have the picture in K&K to put yours in good standing-but at least no one has said mine is a totally duff badge so far. At least someone thought mine worth repair some time ago. Regards, Paul.

Yours and mine both have one thing in common _ at some point they had Marabout erased. That makes them equal in terms of value in my opinion. Paul |
