The piece of tartan shown came with a collection of British cloth badges, the majority of which were from formations and units which served in North West Europe. It has clearly been sewn on, suggesting a regimental flash.
Can anyone identify the tartan and suggest who might have worn it? Jon |

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Still looks like a patch from a barbour to me. I still have a repair tin tucked away somewhere with some patches in. I will see if I can find it and check for a match.

Never did get this identified although its provenance suggested Second World War vintage with a North West Europe connection.
Another one to add to a list of unknowns. Jon |

For what it's worth, I ran those colours through the Tartan Finder website and it's not a registered tartan so the chances of it being military are really slim.
You notice it's not a symmetrical tartan and although there are a few registered asymmetrical tartans, they are comparatively rare. Again, a knock against it being military. Monkey |

I would have to chime in here and confirm that it is nothing I recognize, having been familiar with tartan for over 40 years. Very strange that it is constructed as if used as a formation sign.

Hi Jon,
only just seen this thread. I looked at loads of tartans when I was researching regimental ones, this is not one I came across. I looked at UK, Canada, S Africa etc. Regards, Bill

This is a piece of asymmetric tartan like material rather than a genuine Scottish tartan. I've seen a couple of banners/flags associated with the Free French that used something similar.
