Default Seaforth Highlanders Sporran Badge

This is a new one in the Canadian collection.

Can anyone help with the dates this would have been worn please?

Thanks in advance, Bill

This is often described as a Seaforth Highlanders of Canada "sporran badge". I have never seen a picture of it worn on the sporran, or anywhere else for that matter. It looks like it might have been made so that it could be silver plated and the coronet and cypher separated from the scroll to be worn with the officer's 3-dimensional stag's head.

Hi Phillip,

Thanks for that, I've never seen one in wear either but have now found it in Brookers book 6 as a ORs sporran badge 1920 -1939.

It is feasible that it was used for the coronet and scroll but the coronet would only have 1 lug facing the wrong way to attach to the cap badge lugs.

Guess I'll have to do some more digging on this one.

Bill

Don't believe everything you read in Brooker's books. I don't believe that badge was ever worn on the sporran, but I am happy to be corrected if there is photographic evidence of it in wear.

Perhaps a waist-belt plate?

Confusing !

'Pipes of Freedom' site has a page which is based on "The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada 1919-1965" by Reginald H. Roy (Published 1969)

It has the badge labeled as :
Quote:
Seaforth Highlanders Sporran Badge
But none of the photographs showing sporrans has that badge,

They also show the 3 piece version (which appears to resemble the badge) described as :
Quote:
Seaforth Highlander Pipe Major's three-dimensional silver badge
This would tie in with Phil's suggestion.

https://pipesforfreedom.com/webtxt/0..._OF_CANADA.htm

Also found a photo of PIPE-MAJOR JOHN GILLIES circa 1913 , clearly showing the sporran and belt plate badges worn at that time.
