7th Robin Hoods bi metal???
I wonder was anyone else following this badge on Ebay.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F223700449874 I know Jack about this regiments bimetal badges but to me, this is an all W/M badge with the laurel leaves having been plated/gilt. Definitely not a 2 pc badge. Is this normal Any opinions? Tony.

Hi Tony,
The 7th Batt. bimetal badge I have in my own collection https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ctureid=130982 is lugged with brazing slots as per the second badge you have linked. I haven’t seen a Gaunt marked one with a slider before like the first one. Chris Housley, the curator of the Sherwood Foresters museum noted that Officers and Warrant Officers badges were bimetal and lugged. Blackened and chromed (bandsman) were also noted as lugged. A manufacturers variation would be my take but not one I would buy. Regards Dean

I do wonder whether it's a wm/ badge that has been touched up with gilt paint to deceive. The seller is not one I would pay £70+ to for such a badge.
There is no evidence to suggest that the bi-metal badge was worn by any one else than Offrs and ORs. Interestingly EJ Martin stated that it might have been a post conversion badge https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...5&d=1566830689 but I do think that this was speculation on his part as there is no evidence to this effect. |

I have attached images of a W/M badge in my collection, having the same makers mark as the badge in post #1

The mark is genuine but short-lived and dateable to the 1940's. I believe that it is also found on F&F Yeomanry amongst others.

Indeed Alan I have not seen a reference to a change to a bi-metal badge on conversion to RA and then to RE. I support your dating of the semi- circular Gaunt mark of that style to the 1940s. Here are the bi-metal badges on caps. Manufacturers or other modification I would stand with.
Regards Dean.

I see the real McCoy badge IMO went for a fair bit less than the badge in post #1.
Just shows to go ya.https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F383232396743 Tony.
