Have I Missed Something? South Irish Horse ☘️
Evening All,
Am I missing something with this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-...c67a%7Ciid%3A1 No doubting it’s a lovely original SIH OR cap/collar badge, but £82 already for a broken badge which would originally have had loops seems crazy. Cheers, Luke |

Luke,
I know absolutely nothing about the SIH, but could brooched collar badges have been employed by them as FSC/FSH badges, and if so, go some way to explaining the interest? Regards, JT |

The seller has a number of well known copies listed as original - KEH with incomplete voided lion etc. Buyer beware. Cheers Dean

It’s not impossible but it appears to be a very amateurish job. Note you can see the stump of the loop just below the broach attachment on the right. I’d say far more likely it’s been converted for wear as a sweetheart. When they surface genuine badges cost £65-75 on a dealer’s list. Surprisingly it’s one of those badges where being looped (i.e. possible collars) still sell for cap badge prices. Cheers, Luke |

That SIH is definitely an original. But I agree. Cheers, Luke Last edited by Luke H; 03-12-18 at 01:04 AM. |

Yes I believe so. However that’s not the topic or point of the thread.
Wondering if anyone has any observations on the badge in the OP? Is there something special about it or have a couple of bidders just gone potty because it’s got a lot of character... Cheers, Luke |

Now at £102 ??? What on earth. 2 days and 17 hours left to run.
If it is a broken collar/cap broached to make a sweetheart it surely can’t be worth much beyond £30. |

SIH Badge
Hi Luke
I suspect the reason the price has gone way above what you would expect to pay is because the stalk on the shamrock is pointing to the left. Most genuine badges for sale usually have the stalk to the right. Photographic evidence would show that a matching pair of collar badge shamrocks would have a left and right facing stalk. Left facing stalk badges are very rare. Collar badges would have lugs and it looks like these have been removed and replaced with a pin fixing to make it a sweetheart badge. I think it's well past the price it's worth. Bob |

Thanks, I never knew there were left facing stalks. Very interesting to know. Will have to look through some old threads see if I can see mirror image collar badges. I would say that if you look at the kink in the stalk halfway down I think it was originally a right facing one. Someone has clearly straightened it out with a pair of plyers and pulled it past vertical and over to the left. So if that’s the reason it’s gone so high I think the buyer will be disappointed. SIH Badge
Luke
I agree the badge is a bit suspect !! That's why I didn't bid on it. Bob |

Bob - I agree.
Some fantastic pics in this thread courtesy of Griff of the SIY https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...th+Irish+horse interestingly both collars have stalks right. Sadly can’t find any close ups of SIH currently where stalk direction is discernible, will keep looking. Luke |
