Default Wound Stripes

Though not Naval I thought I would share my examples as they are of the same pattern. Three WW2 period battledress, the middle one has the WW1 type stripe which is slightly larger. Pic2 shows a selection of wound stripes, top row, bullion type on khaki, bottom row metal type with backing plate, WW1 and WW2, also a piece of bullion braid that came with some medals and badges.

Default Royal NAvy Woulnd Stripe

I recently found this with a number of Naval items I acquired. I can't find any info on it but assume it is a WWII Royal Navy wound stripe for the dress whites. Can anyone confirm this? [IMG][/IMG]

Gold on dark blue & gold on RAF blue - I'd always "assumed" (that word.....) that the ones on dark blue may be for army, RM,, perhaps Cd & police.

The problem with looking for genuine wound stripes of either war is that they were not officially supplied as made up badges but as separate strips of braid which the individual had to have attached to the cuff as per the regulations.
Unless therefore you have a uniform, or scrap of uniform with good provenance, it is impossible to identify a 'Wound stripe' from just any piece of Gold Russia Braid No1.
Who wanted RN wound stripes!?
