Default Non-Combatant Corps... cap badge or S/T?

Dear All,

I am interested to know whether the cap badge for this corps was issued with lugs as well as sliders.

There seem to be a number of lugged examples currently available which are described as cap badges, but since this badge is very shoulder title-like anyway, it seems impossible to tell the difference.

I am aware that the unit came into existence well after the introduction of sliders (1915), so am hoping somebody can throw a little light on this, please.

With thanks,

Peter.

As far as I am aware the NCC would would only have been founded in 1916, after the introduction of conscription. (MSA No 1 of January 1916)

Sorry, can't help re lugs or slider. My two examples both have lugs.

Quite right, sir... I stand corrected.

http://www.1914-1918.net/labour.htm (about half way down).

This then places the Corps even further down the line after the intro of sliders, I suppose... albeit a year.

Thanks BWEF,

PJ

I was serving at Harwich in 1956 and there were a number of NCC personnel with the RPC Det there, attached to HQ Movement Control. I was given a cap badge by one of these men (a solicitors clerk in civil life), taken straight from his beret. I still have it and it has 2 lugs.

Interesting story, Oriskany; don't suppose you would have a couple of snaps of the badge?

Peter.
