Default Uniform Identification

Greetings All!

Been trying like mad to identify the uniform in the attached image -- without success. This is not my photo, but it was posted to another board (antiques) that I frequent and the original poster gave me permission to post it elsewhere (here).

Unfortunately, no closer image of the badge is available. I've just not been able to put together the stand up collar, the two pockets (not four) and the scalloped pocket flap.

Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated!!!

I can't help you identify the who or the where, but it's a very nice photo. Lots of detail if you look close. Thanks for posting.

Cheers,
Dan.

Thank you, Bill and Dan. I love examining items like this -- with the idea to maybe pin down it's history, discover the story... but I have exhausted my research skills with very little to show for it!

Is the badge similar to the Gordon's Boys School, or is it just my eyes?

I don't know if these enlargement will help -- they're stretched (proportionally) beyond the original scan, so there is some distortion.

Default Uniform identification

Phil

I can see what you mean about the Gordon's School badge. Might it also be a Victorian Glengarry cap & badge?

My reservation about a school cadet unit is that there are some very mature students. Would cadets have worn long service chevrons on the cuff? Maybe not.

Perhaps this was taken in India, the uniform having the appearance of being khaki drill, not worsted.

The field service caps also tend to date this photo as being pre-1914, although their use continued in India.

Stephen.

A Rifle Infantry Regiment or Battalion in India. Could the base of the headdress be a clue with the distinct sort of band. Colour of chevrons possibly black on rifle green edged silver.

It's possible, but I did spend some time this morning manipulating the original image. I was unsuccessful in getting a definitive answer.

My best guess would be the fabric of the headdress is one color -- but that is only a guess.
