KING'S OWN BORDERERS QVC Badge

Hi

I have found a bit on Borderers badges from researching online but hope someone knowledgeable about these badges can confirm. It is approximately 65mm high by 52mm wide. Very well made with great detail.

Based on legend in use 1881-87. The fretted style usually officers. No maker marks that I can see. Very tarnished but shiny in some places.

Any info appreciated.

I can't help much and probably won't progress your enquiry; I have a couple of unfretted QVC Kings Own Borderers' badges and others showing 25th Foot (which became Kings own Borderers), as well as the KSB title but know very little about the Regiment.

If I remember correctly, they became Kings Own Scottish Borderers in 1887, so definitely pre that date and in all probability an officer's.

I'd opt for it being a possible senior NCO's bonnet badge. I think that the lugs are not right for the HP center.

Just an option!

Thanks Dave. HP centres that I have seen and on line typically have the wire square end lugs. Would NCO's wear a badge of this type? Most of the fretted ones seem to be officers.

Test if for silver, if it is it'll be an officer's badge, if not it may be a SNCO's badge.

Confirmed. Before 1881 it had XXV between the lower part of the circle and Dominus scroll, and in 1887 they bacame the King's Own Scottish borderers.

OK was looking at it on my phone. See what you are saying about the lugs. There is nothing exactly the same in Bloomers Scottish Regimental Badges. There is a similar KC officers badge. But the regimental title on the circle differs .

Hi Don,

The cap badge in question is an officers or Warrant officers Forage-cap badge dating 1881, points to note; the regimental title is fretted (pierced) also the top motto is fretted, where as the lower motto is solid, the forage-cap in this case was also known as the 'pork-pie hat' it has a dices headband of red, white and dark green dicing, black patent leather peak with gold braid and a red worsted toorie on the top, this cap badge id described in the 1883 Dress Regulation, there is a similar badge with the lower motto fretted and the top solid, some thought that this was an error but the 1883 D R specify the lower fretted scroll is for Officers active service cap.
