Yay! I knew that SOMEONE would know. I was also told that the Germans called them "the black-buttoned bastards".

The man I spoke to was the wonderfully engaging Lawrence ("Curly") BLYTH. Met him when he was 104 years old and he made it to 106.

He also told me the "monkey on the stick" title.
